Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel GT3

$470 In Stock
Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel GT3

The verdict

The ClubSport GT3 steps up from the CSL with real carbon fibre, overmoulded rubber grips, and magnetic shifter paddles at $470, but the 45-minute assembly and 3kg weight are worth knowing about.

Best for

  • Xbox and PC racers wanting ClubSport-tier build quality
  • Fanatec ecosystem owners upgrading from CSL wheels
  • GT3 and endurance racers who want a premium Fanatec rim

Not for

  • Budget builders, the CSL GT3 offers 80% of the experience for half the price
  • Lighter wheelbases, at 3kg assembled this needs at least 8Nm to feel balanced
  • Anyone who dislikes DIY assembly, the build takes 45 minutes

What it is

The Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel GT3 is a 318mm GT rim built around the Universal Hub V2 platform. The front plate is real carbon fibre, not cosmetic wrap, which is a genuine surprise at this price. The rim itself features overmoulded rubber grips, magnetic shifter paddles, 16 buttons, a 3-digit LED display, a 7-way FunkySwitch, and Fanatec’s QR2 quick release. You assemble it yourself: hub, rim, paddles, bolt pattern. Budget 45 minutes and a clean workspace.

At $470 for the Xbox bundle ($470 PC-only), it sits in Fanatec’s high tier between the CSL GT3 below and the Podium range above. Full Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC compatibility.

Who it’s for

Fanatec owners upgrading from the CSL GT3 or bundled rims who want ClubSport build quality without crossing into Podium pricing. If you race GT3, touring cars, or endurance events in iRacing, ACC, or Forza Motorsport and want something that feels premium without spending $600+, this is the logical next step in the Fanatec catalogue.

Xbox racers specifically benefit here. The ClubSport GT3 is one of very few high-tier wheels with native Xbox support.

In use

The carbon fibre front plate is rigid and convincing. Hold it next to a CSL wheel and the difference in material quality is immediately obvious. The magnetic shifter paddles have a quiet, precise action, noticeably cleaner than the CSL’s plastic paddles. The rubber grips breathe well enough for 90-minute stints, though they will pick up dirt over time.

The 3-digit LED display is functional for gear number and basic info, but nothing more. If you want on-wheel telemetry, this is not the right wheel. The 16 buttons and FunkySwitch give you plenty of mapping options, though some of the caps feel plasticky relative to the carbon fibre front plate.

At 3kg assembled (roughly 700g rim plus 2.3kg hub with QR2), this is a heavy wheel. On a CSL DD at 5Nm, the inertia noticeably affects FFB detail. Pair it with a DD1, DD2, or GT DD Pro for the best dynamic range.

What to watch out for

The assembly process is the biggest friction point. 45 minutes, small bolts, and a documented issue where QR2 bolt length can crack the LED screen if you are not careful. Fanatec does not flag this in their instructions. Check community guides before assembly.

The 3kg assembled weight matters. Lighter bases struggle to push detail through that mass. If you are on a CSL DD, the CSL GT3 at roughly half the weight will feel more responsive.

QR2 locks you into Fanatec. No adapters, no cross-platform use. This is a permanent ecosystem decision.

Verdict

A genuine step up from the CSL GT3 in materials and feel, with real carbon fibre, proper rubber grips, and clean magnetic paddles. The assembly process and 3kg weight are the trade-offs. If you have a DD1 or stronger base and want a premium GT wheel that works on Xbox, the ClubSport GT3 earns its price. On lighter bases, think carefully about the weight penalty.

"The carbon fibre front plate on the Universal Hub V2 is actual carbon fibre -- not a decorative wrap over plastic, which is what I half expected at this price point."

"Coming from the CSL GT3 I reviewed last year, the step up in feel is hard to overstate -- though the build process had a few moments that tested my patience."
